Bassanio approaches his friend Antonio who is extremely a wealthy merchant of Venice who has always bailed him out. Poor Antonio knew that his merchandise and ships are busy at sea on other locations but he promises to cover a bond if Bassanio can find a lender and that's how he becomes a suitable suitor.
